tee1up golf weekend
2004
|
- Thursday 3rd to the 6th June 2004
- We couldn't have picked a better week for this years golf
weekend in Cornwall the forecast was expected to be hot for the
four days. After a early start and a stop for breakfast we all
arrived at St Mellion around 11am and it was quickly into the
bar for some Dutch courage before the start of the exhausting
six rounds of golf over four days. The competition for the
weekend as with every golf weekend we have played was accumulated
Stableford with two team rounds and the rest individual scores to
count. The first round at St Mellion on the Nicholas course www.st-mellion.co.uk
was individual Stableford of full handicap. The round was
won by Colin Giles with 33 points and in second was Gavin Hall
on 29 points, third place went to Andy Webber hardly surprising
as he loves the course ( a we all look forward to his unbiased
review). After the round it was a quick dash (hour and a half)
drive to Bude to the Hotel Penarvor overlooking Crantock Beach. www.hotelpenarvor.co.uk
if you decide to stay in Bude look no further than this Hotel
the food is superb and Kim an Laurie really make you feel at
home.

| Day 2 Friday 18 holes
Stableford in the morning and Four Ball better
ball in the afternoon at Bude and North Cornwall Golf club www.golfincornwall.co.uk/budegc.htm.
The morning started off with some sea har (rain) which
only lasted about two holes mind you I was off the
last group and when we teed off we didnt see were the
balls went. We were all dressed to the nines in water
proof cloving with the exception of Rob who thought it
funny to wear shorts and a jumper that got soaking wet
in seconds. But he had it right because the sun cam
out and quickly as it rained we dried out only problem
with this is that we had to carry a full bag for the
remaining holes. I had a great round and scored a
steady 38 points which gave me a second place behind
Colin Giles on 39 points, third was shared by Stuart
Hensman and Gavin Hall. The second round was played to
the same format but with a twist in the evening the
Better ball partner were drawn out of the hat, so the
final scores were unknown until then. The winner of
the second round was Gavin Hall with 43, second went
to Andy Webber and Jason Gregg on 42 points and third
place to Neil and Stuart Rennie. The scores after
three rounds were very close with Gavin, Colin and
Andy Webber leading the way. |
