- Roserrow which is very close to Camel Estuary in
Cornwall and only a short drive from St Endoc. I had
heard mediocre reports on this course and didn’t know
what to expect from it but on first glance it looked in
lovely condition and very hilly. The outward has
outstanding views over Hayle Bay you could also see most
of the groups ahead of us winding the way through each
of the holes from the first tee. The wind was blowing
hard but fortunately for us it was with us for the first
hole, but the next several holes took us straight back
into the wind making the long par fours play like par
fives. The wind seemed to change direction on every hole
making the course very difficult and very hard walking,
I realised that not taking the buggies offered to my was
a mistake. After the front nine I was looking forward to
playing the rest of the course which winds itself
around, up and down the Merlin’s Valley. The back nine
for me has some of the most interesting holes on the
course with quirky tee positions which make you think
hard on the correct shot to play. It starts with the 10th
all you need is a fairly straight drive over the hill
keeping it to the left of the fairway and the ball will
run and run down the hill on the other side leaving you
a short shot onto the green. The 12th a par
three about 170 is through a valley and you can only see
part of the green from the tee. The 14th is
at the bottom of the valley you are faced with a tight
tee shot over a small river which wanders across the
start of the fairway and all the way down the right
side, the fairway is very tight as well with no bail out
either side. It finishes with a par four which is all
the way back up the hill the hole will take your breath
away leaving calling for oxygen and I can honestly say I
was absolutely exhausted after playing the eighteen
holes. I thought I had played quite well but for some
reason I only managed to only score 25 points so wind
had taken its toll in more ways than one. We were all
faced with another eighteen in the afternoon I decided
to call for a vote on only playing another nine which
everyone agreed too.
- I have to say the course was well worth playing and
the staff certainly made us very welcome but I suggest
you check the weather before you visit and take the
buggies you’ll need them.
