- We couldn’t have picked a better
day to play at Rowlands Castle to play our first event
of the year for the Spring Bowl, unusually for March it
was like a summers day and so hot the sun cream came of
the bag for the second round in the afternoon. We have
only played this course once in the past and on that day
it rain so much we had to abandon the match because of
water log greens. I used to live near Rowlands and had
played the course many times and always enjoyed my
rounds here it has wide fairways but plenty of hazards
to trap anyone straying to far of line. The course
measures 6612yards and is a par 72 and starts off with
some fairly easy short hole which do need a little bit
of thought when you play off the tee, then the holes
seem to get longer and harder as you make you way round
the course. There are three holes which really stand out
for me on this course the 13th which is the
best is a par four your tee to a narrow piece of fairway
your ball must be well placed as there are big oaks in
the fairway to the left and woods either side. Your
second shot is to a sunken green, which has a very large
deep plateau towards the back, placing you ball in the
right place is almost impossible. This is followed by
the 14th a lovely par three through a avenue
of trees which protects you from the any wind swirling
around the green which can cause all sorts of problems,
unfortunately for us this green was out of action on our
day as they were completely rebuilding the hole, but it
did look nice though. My last choice is 17th
which always sticks in my mind as an enjoyable hole and
on paper it’s not a very hard hole. A sharp dog leg
par five with the right tee shot the green is very
reachable in two but you have to avoid dropping your
ball in the ditches which cuts across the fairway and
follows the fairway al the way down the left.

- We have visited many venues of the
last 15 years and I have to say that you will not beat
the welcome and the food we received at this club. As
many know me if there is lamb on the menu you can
guarantee it will be my first from the menu selection,
needless to say we all sat down at lunch time with Lamb
shank followed by treacle tart and custard and the game
suffered in the afternoon.
