Andy Webber aka Captain Pugwash
- I was born 17th May 1969 in Portsmouth Hampshire and have always
lived in and around the Fareham area. Been married over ten years
to Jean and we have a great son called Thomas, who despite all my
efforts will not get involved in golf, preferring football
instead. In my current employment I often travel
the world, quite often with my clubs in tow. This has allowed me
to play a number of different courses in the US and I am
particularly looking forward to playing the Nicklaus designed Glen
Abbey golf course in Ontario Canada this June when I visit. First
played golf when I was 16 although I didn't start playing
seriously until I was 20 when working at a previous employer with
two fellow Tee1up golf society members Gavin Hall and Michael
Whitelock. For a number of years our golf was limited to playing
various rounds and days out at local courses including Portsmouth,
Great Salterns, Chichester, Wickham Park to name a few. We also
arranged ourselves weekend trips once a year to the West Country
playing courses such as St Mellion, Woodbury Park, Lanhydrock and
Dartmouth. I started playing
with the golf society during 1997 on the second ever golf day at
Bramshaw, since when I have been fortunate enough to have never
missed a day. During my time with the society I am a pass winner
of the Spring Bowl when played at Corhampton and also won the
Double Matchplay with my playing partner Michael Whitelock.
Although these two victories are not what I am remembered for by
the longstanding members of the society, these are overshadowed by
the incident at the 2000 golf weekend away at Lostwithel when I
had a poor reaction to the Scotch Whiskey collection at the bar.
Kevin is more than happy to provide details for those that don't
know the story. I was very fortunate during my time at Tandberg to
form a friendship with Kevin that continues to this day, and have
allowed us both to received numerous invites from friends we have
made through the society and work to courses such as Wentworth
West Course, The Oxfordshire, Welcombe Park, Worpelsdon, Mentmore
and Magnolia Park to name a few. The society has been most
enjoyable over the past 7 years and allowed me to make numerous
friends who have provided some memorable days on the golf course,
long may it continue!!!
- Best golfing memory playing Old Course at St
Andrews in fine sunny conditions and shooting an 84
(Net 73) that included a par at the Road Hole. Best
course played - Close call between St Mellion
Nicklaus Course in Cornwall, Wentworth West Course
and Vilamoura Old in the Algarve
