Chichester Golf Club played 8th May 2007 weather was windy, cold with showers
tee1up rating 6/10 two good courses worth a visit.
We haven’t played Chichester before but I had visited the club a couple of times to play the Cathedral course and had liked the course. We decided to hold the Captains Cup at the venue playing 36 hole stableford competition over both courses the Tower and Cathedral. The forecast for the day was windy with showers and some sunshine in the afternoon and that is exactly what we got except the wind was very strong and only rained for one hole. We only fielded fifteen players on the day a poor turn out and I am not sure if it was due to the course or the date chosen but some of the members had already said they didn’t like the course and wouldn’t be attending and it left me wondering why.
The Captains Cup was won by Steve Dunn who scored 37 points in the morning on the Tower and 31 in the afternoon on the Cathedral. Second was myself with 33 points scored on both courses and third place went to Mark Hayes who scored 30 and 32 points

We played the Tower course first which is par 71 and 5906 yards of the yellow tees, the course starts with a par three and ends with a short par four at 250 yards. It also has three fairly easy par fives and there is plenty of room for wayward tee shots so you should come away with a reasonable score around this course. The only hole that left me with a memory after the round was the third par three across water.
The Cathedral is a better of the two courses at Chichester it measures 6158 yards and a par 71 having said that it has a number of what I call up and down holes which a fairly straight with plenty of room either side of the fairways.  The course then starts to get interesting with four good holes on the trot and starts with the fourth which is a lovely par three over water to an elevated green although quite short at 149 yards very tricky in the wind. This is followed shortly by the 5th ridiculous par 5 (sorry I mean par 6) it has a very narrow path down the fairway and water down the left hand side and if you were unlucky enough to have the wind in your face as we did just forget the hole and move to the next. The 6th another par three over water it is deceptive hole as the green looks very narrow from the tee but you will find plenty of room to land your ball. The 7th a par four with water down the right requires an accurate tee shot to make your par. The only other hole that needs a mention is the 15th a short par three set amongst a rock garden and over water.
After playing the course all day although I enjoyed playing some of the holes on both the courses it didn’t leave me with the feeling that I wouldn’t like to play it again.
