Driving up in the morning towards Basingstoke the weather didn’t look favourable and I remarked I thought we were in for a soaking today and the weather forecast said more or less the same thing. We had arranged to play only the Woodland course in morning and afternoon for the Spring Bowl which is normally played over 36 holes but because we felt the weather would be against us we decided to play it over eighteen holes in the morning with a friendly game in the afternoon if the weather was ok. Lucky for us the weather was prefect and there were a lot of red faces from the sun and wind in the club house at the end of the day

Oak Park Golf Club owned by Crown Golf is located in North Hampshire on the outskirts of the village of Crondall near Basingstoke, there are two courses the 18 hole Woodland course which measures 6065, and is a par 70 and the 9 hole Village course measures 3218 and is a par 36..
The impression you get from the first tee is this is just another parkland course with the odd spattering of trees and certainly the first hole a par four is a fairly easy start.
The second is a little tighter and you have to think about your tee shot then you start to see why they named it the Woodland course because every hole after the first winds it way through trees. There is a loop of four holes which will take you breath away stating with a par five which is a long dog leg and finishes with a climb to the top of the hill, then you make you way down a par four at the back of the hill and end up climbing back up the hill again on a par four. The loop is finished off by a long par three which is 200 yards long. The layout has been certainly been carefully designed to provide a challenge for golfers of all standards a mix of some easier holes and harder ones that leave to thankful if you make par.
