We played Lee-on-the-Solent on the 8th April 2004 the weather conditions were just right all though a little cold to start with, we were playing for the spring bowl which is a 36 hole stableford competition. this years winner was Jason Gregg with total of 68 points (two rounds of 34 points), second place went to Paul Hart and third to Stewart Rennie.
Nice course with friendly staff, excellent food and a helpful pro, but watch out for its moody members
 tee1up score 6/10

The Thirteenth at Lee

The course is listed as a heath land/parkland course but being so close to the sea it also has a links feel about it as the winds can change direction very quickly and the fairways were similar to other links courses we have played which were very sandy. The course is only 5755 yards long par 69 with five short par three's of which the thirteenth is rated one of the best in the country.

The first hole is a par for dog leg left play to the left of the fairway to open up the green OB on your left in amongst the trees. The second hole just a medium iron to the middle of the fairway and a straight forward pitch to the green. The third dog leg left another short tee shot leaving you a wedge over bunkers onto a sunken green. The forth straight drive will set you up for a iron shot through a narrow gap in the fairway to a green protected by bunkers in front of the green. The fifth hole is first of the par fives in a row this one is straight forward only difficultly is a grass ditch across the ditch on your second shot but if you land in it don't worry as it is only short shot to the green and it is easily cleared. The next hole six another straight drive towards two sets of bunkers which don't really come into play. Your third shot into a long green should be quite easy if you hit the last two shots correctly. Seven is a short par three not much to say about this one except it has a long narrow green.  Eight is a par four dog leg left play left of centre will leave you with a easy shot in. The green is long and slopes away from you. The ninth is another par three with three tiers and a ditch protecting the front edge of the green. The tenth hole seems to be laid out on a piece of left over waste ground with a long tee shot you will find yourself up by the green. The eleventh you hit across some marsh land that doesn't come into play and the fairway is also very generous however the next shot into the green is very narrow watch out for the bunker on the right. The twelfth is a testing par four your tee shot is from an elevated tee across a small valley and the next shot is a long one which needs to be accurate. Thirteen is the course signature hole a great par three it plays more club than you think and if the pin is at the back and you don't reach it you have one hell of a put. The fourteenth is another par three but about 200 yards and a hard green to hit. The fifteenth hit your drive as close as you can to the bunker on the left and you ball should race up the fairway leaving you with a nice shot into the green. Sixteen is a dog leg left three wood is more than enough to get you round the corner, the bunker on the right of the green is well short of the green. Seventeenth is the last par three protected by bunkers on both sides easy eight iron here will do. The last hole eighteen is a nice par four hit a long straight drive and you have a medium iron onto a large green the bunkers in the middle of the fairway only serve to put you off your shot.
